Protein Synthesis
Transcription
Transcription
- DNA is used as a template to make an RNA molecule.
- RNA then leaves the nucleus and goes to the ribosome in the cytoplasm where the translation occurs.
Translation
- The mRNA sequence is attached to the ribosome where it is decoded one codon at a time.
- tRNA carries each amino acid and binds to the mRNA at the correct codon.
- Each amino avid is added to the growing chain and the protein is released.
- REMEMBER: DNA --> mRNA (transcription) --> protein (translation)
